Congratulations on your nomination to The Technology Leadership Experience (The TechLX)! Your leaders are investing in you and your leadership journey because they recognize your potential.

Ouellette & Associates (O&A) developed The TechLX in partnership with a group of CIOs looking for robust leadership development. Throughout this journey, you’ll have the opportunity to benefit from a research-based leadership assessment, highly engaging workshops, 1:1 mentoring, cross-industry peer-learning, and access to thousands of microlearning resources. My team and I are going to help you:

  • Lead – There has never been a better time to be an IT leader, and this program will take your leadership game to the next level.
  • Listen – Winston Churchill said, “Courage is knowing when to stand up and speak, and when to sit down and listen.” We are going to help you be a better listener and build the trust, respect, and credibility to ensure others listen to you.
  • Language – Words, body language, how we speak and show up — it all makes a difference. In The TechLX, you will learn how to effectively communicate both your value and IT’s value.
  • Link – The best leaders build strong relationships with people inside and outside of their company. These are the first people they call when tackling a new challenge. In this program, you will build a strong network across multiple industries.
  • Learn – No playbook exists for navigating these times of constant change and disruption. Curious, lifelong learners will win the day. We will equip you for this exciting journey ahead.

I challenge you to fully embrace this journey. You’ll get out what you put in, so don’t settle. Stretch outside of your comfort zone at every opportunity. This is a safe environment to try out ideas and receive feedback.

Getting Started

“The TechLX in Detail” is a roadmap of where the next year will take you, covering every component of the program from start to finish, including the workshops, IT Skill Builder, graduation, and much more.

The TechLX Achievement List contains the significant milestones of your TechLX journey that you must complete in order to graduate. Please be sure to download or print this list out at the start of the program, refer to it throughout, and then sign and submit prior to  graduation.

Self-Awareness (IT Skill Builder)

You will begin your TechLX journey with a self-assessment in the 15 Core Competencies of IT Skill Builder. To learn more about how self-awareness is key to successful leadership, the background of the 15 Core Competencies, and the value IT Skill Builder brings to your development, check out the following:

IT Leadership Development

Leading in a Technology Organization focuses on some of the most critical skills of effective leadership, such as purpose, goals and vision, inspiring others, emotional intelligence, and decision-making.

IT Consulting Skills — Becoming a Trusted Advisor will enhance your trust and influencing skills, strengthen your communication skills, and help you build deeper relationships with clients, team members, and others in the organization.

Marketing in a Technology Organization will enable you to communicate the value of the IT organization or yourself as an IT leader. You’ll learn to tell a compelling narrative and build support by focusing on value provided rather than simply the technical features.

Peer Connections

Throughout The TechLX you will have multiple opportunities to connect with and learn from your peers from various companies and industries nationwide. One of these opportunities is the “Leadership Connections” sessions, which will include CIO guest speakers, Q&A discussions, informal “coffee hours,” and more.

The TechLX offers you a safe environment  to build confidence, learn from peers, and practice problem-solving through difficult, real-life situations. You will do this with your sub-group (5-6 participants) in Peer Problem-Solving Sessions.

Networking is something that IT professionals frequently dread and actively avoid; however, it is a skill every IT leader needs to become proficient in. Discover how you can open doors of opportunity, market your abilities and experience, and build deeper, lasting relationships with colleagues and executives. 

1:1 Mentoring

An integral part of the TechLX program, mentoring provides another avenue for up-and-coming tech leaders to connect with seasoned tech leaders in the community to build your networks, gain practical advice for career success, and learn key leadership traits. Use the Mentee Handbook to make the most of this valuable relationship.

Self-Paced Learning

Your learning and development isn’t confined to formal training programs. Especially in today’s complex, constantly changing world, effective leaders are lifelong learners, who take every opportunity to weave personal and professional development in to their day-to-day routines. These and other self-paced learning tools will allow you to take ownership of your development and continue to grow your skills and your career — during the TechLX journey and well beyond.
